The Gainsborough Model Railway Society was formed in 1946, with the aim of replicating the prototypical operations of the London and North Eastern Railway’s (LNER) East Coast Main Line.
The Society moved to its permanent home in Florence Terrace in 1953, initially renting one room. As further rooms became available, the Society expanded, becoming the sole tenant and ultimately bought the property. The railway you see to day is the culmination of over 70 years of dedication by generations of Society members to produce what is now an extensive ‘O’ gauge railway depicting the journey from London Kings Cross to Leeds Central filling the entire ground floor of the building.
